Why Me?
Do you ever ask yourself, Why Me? but, in a positive way, not the stereotypical way of whining "Whyyyyyy Meeee!" We've definitely all had our moments for that. But the real answers come when you spin it the other way.
Why Me? Why am I blessed to have the marriage I have, the kids I have, the friends who are roots in my life, the experiences we have all gotten to go through together, the trips, the laughter, the love. Why Me? I often stop and think how does this happen? I've had people say "You guys are so lucky" and it brings me back to these things....this life is not luck, its work, so much work! But all of the above are the reasons why its so important and so worth it! The age old saying that nothing worth having comes easy and it couldn't be more true.
Let's take my marriage - I have been married to a wonderful man for 21 years and it has been the most fulfilling journey and I look forward to the next 50 with great excitement and love - but its also work, a lot of work that we both choose to put in every single day. We both choose to support each other in the things that are important to the other and to respect that it takes commitment and understanding. It takes overlooking the little things some times because the big picture is what matters. (Just because the dishwasher isn't loaded the way maybe I would have done it! haha) It takes giving space, loving hard and for us, it takes coffee every morning together. It is our sacred time. So sacred that we get up at 4:00 a.m. to make sure it happens - I mean, with three kids that seems to be the only quiet time we can find but it works for us! Its important to find what works for you.
My kids. My kids make me so proud, they've given me the proudest title - Mom. They are my heart and soul. And, they are loud, and messy and they backtalk and test boundaries, oh and they know everything about everything. They run me ragged, they sometimes make me wonder if I'm truly certifiably crazy, they make me repeat myself one thousand times a day and they make me raise my voice much higher than I ever thought I would (insert "When I'm a Mom, I would never...." yeah, yeah, blah blah blah) They are WORK. But they are my most important work. So when I look at them and say Why Me? What I really should be doing is dropping to my knees and saying Thank you!
Put your best work forward and it will come back to you. It may not always be in the exact same way you had envisioned but it will come back the way its meant for you if you work hard. The new coffee sales chapter for me has been one of great work but worth it to me because I love it, because its my passion and something I truly enjoy. I've never been a salesy person and some days I find myself vulnerable and wondering if I'm doing it right or if I'm truly connecting with others the way I want to and then I'm reminded - that is the work that is due because its worth it to me.
I've always had a love for flamingo's. One, well let me be honest, because their pink and that's always been my favorite color. Two, because they remind me to Stand Tall, Stay Balanced, Protect My Flock and Always Be Fabulous. Your fabulous doesn't have to be someone else's fabulous and it doesn't have to be glamourous either, fabulous can be when you've put the work in and you know why its you.

Jody
